Will transcribe entire thing tonight. Just some notes now:
Plans to bring all eight guys on staff back. Will continue to be as involved defensively as he was at end of year
Will stick with 2015 scheme more (what they ran late in year). Mix of odd and even front
Says he didn't make every call in defense. Brown Walters and Cross were all involved.
DL coach: has talked to a handful of guys, doesn't want to rush. Expects something in place in next few days.
No players have told the staff they will transfer yet. Next week he will sit down with every player individually
Has assessed what they did well and didn't. Will continue to do so.
Will assess special teams duties. Will stay involved but will split some of the duties up. Gives him a chance to coach some offensive guys too.
Says the Tennessee game will stick with him for a while because the defense was so poor.
Never had concern he would lose the locker room
Tackling: technique and desire. Did tackling drills in practice but never went full speed tackling 1v1 because of the depth concerns on the lines.
On attendance issues have to do a great job in the state of building a brand worth following.
Wanted to win for the players and fans to have something to support and be proud of. Has seen Mizzou when it's a great place. "I've got to make it happen overnight"
Knew what the roster was when he took over. Another recruiting class will help.
Some things in program discipline are no gray area: violence involving women is one of them.
Next step for Lock is taking care of the ball. Another year in the system is "vital for what we're trying to do on that side of the ball." Said they only had about four route concepts in for spring ball last year. Said they're so much further ahead now. I asked him if he fully anticipated Heupel being back and he didn't really address it. Just said when you have good coaches you get a lot of phone calls and he hopes to bring everyone back.
Like how the kicking game ended the year as far as kickoffs. Good to see McCann finish the way he did.
On the academic stuff, feels confident in the job the support staff does. Good track record. Basically repeating what he has already said.
On recruiting has a plan and a vision and enjoys sharing that with kids and families. Giving campus tours and recruiting is one of the things he enjoys the most.
Ongoing battle to rebuild Texas recruiting. Better off than they were last year at this time.
On juco guys, depends on the depth at each position. Has to be selective on how many.
On Charles Harris happy and proud for him. Wasn't counting on him being back, recruited that way.
Expects to sign 25 guys in february.
