So was at the game today and had some random thoughts...
1. This team should be much better than they have played the last month and a half. They have athletes. To me this is clearly coaching in terms of CMs substitution patterns/player utilization. He was handcuffed tonight with only so many available and he shortened the rotation. Players got into rhythm and it paid dividends. Kudos to CM for actually letting some guys play longer stretches. Although I do think pulling KB still wasnt the right move with 8 or so left. The lead shrunk because he wasnt out there on offense. If AL didnt keep shitting themselves a few times during that stretch they would have been even closer when he came back in.
2. Kobe Brown is a beast. There is no possession this team has that he shouldnt touch the ball. Unless its a fast break or easy layup the offense should go through him.
3. Trayvon Brazile is going to be a star. Hes a freshman....The dude has elite athleticism and is long....Cant wait to see what he can do when he gets more muscle on that frame.
4. Ronnie Degray is not good. Glad he can somewhat rebound but he is not a SEC level player.
5. Dejuan Gordon is rough to watch. He tries but I just dont see it.
6. Boogie Coleman is fine. He had a good game but I honestly don't love his game. But if he can shoot the rock like he did today I am fine with him.
7. Kaleb Brown was surprisingly good. He only had that one horrendous shot from 3 but otherwise seemed to play under control and was serviceable taking the ball up the court.
8. The crowd and atmosphere was great. Everyone has been predicting ridiculously low numbers but that wasnt the case. There were empty seats for sure but it didnt feel empty at all.
Look, I dont think this team is going on a 10 game winning streak or anything but this game at least showed that they CAN play with good teams. My only message to CM is stick with a smaller rotation of guys and go with them unless there is just a ridiculous level of foul trouble. The guys that were missing today dont have to be in the rotation. In fact, I would have them at the end of the bench. Go with this rotation and run with it. See what happens.
