First none of this is to say its all on Odoms recruiting just looking at analyzing that part of it.
Of the 2017 Class who are you Redshirt Seniors only 5 players remain Byers, Whiteside, White, Turner and Cook(there are no 6th year seniors). Of the 2018 class only 11 remain and only two of them are a Dlineman, Defensive back, Wide receiver(Dove) with only Bailey remaining at Linebacker. The 2019 class only 12 remain and only Robinson, McGuire, Pettway and Nicholson remain in the front seven and none of the WR from that class either. Some one mentioned 12 of the 18 commits from 2020 remain including none of the Defensive Tackles, Norris as your only Linebacker and Walker as your only DE recruited.
Talent isnt the only issue, the bigger issue is lack of upper classmen Leadership and contributions to the problem position groups. When you dont recruit enough players at each position each year, then the talent you do recruit leaves or underachieves, and those players have disciple problems the entire time they are here, it causes what we are seeing. Add to that young players making young player mistakes and being undeveloped simply due to lack of time in the programs and you see every one missing tackles, assignments and being lost on defense. No coach in the world could fix that entirely in 1 1/2 years.
These things can and will get fixed but itll take Drink getting his guys in and he missed a potential opportunity with the portal. Lets hope to end the year well and get a start next year.
