Imo it all boils down to recruiting. For the type of scheme we're running this year... The players just aren't there on defense. Period. Coaches have to take egos out of the equation and play to the current players strengths. Truth be told you're neutering Beckner and Harris with this scheme. There's no aggression. The scheme doesn't fit what Gary Pinkel recruited them to do. Now you can be a hard ass and force this scheme on these players(likey) or what alot of the elite coaches do start back adding things to maximize your talent. You have elite pass rushers in beckner and Harris but you're playing a scheme to make Burkett, Newsome, and Scherer the stars. Wtf? It makes zero sense and it's killing the team. If we're running this gap control scheme... You have to have much better linebacker play. Our linebackers are below average. Flat out. Period. All of them. Maybe you open up competition because Burkett and Newsome aren't getting it done. Especially Burkett... He had an awful game. Same with Wilson. Wtf has he done the entire year that screams starter? Jobs need to be open. Enough of this "he knows the assignment shit". Do you make plays come game time? If the answer is no... Someone else should get a shot. Don't go down the road Pinkel and Henson did with the Oline last year. Playing only the same scrubs who struggled the entire year never giving the other guys a chance.
