It would have happened faster if not for the vaccines and other mitigations.
The sad thing is when the vaccines came out we were at less than half a million. And the vaccines have been proven to be well over 90% effective against death from covid.
So the truth is well over 400k people in the US have died because they chose not to get vaccinated.
Masks are only somewhat effective. Social distancing is hard and there are legit reasons not to. But vaccines? Vaccines are easy and free and highly effective. Get your damn vaccines, people.
