At tonight's opening ceremonies, one of my students, Kayla Savory, will be honored for winning a national essay competition about overcoming obstacles. She will be presented alongside Jackie Robinson's granddaughter Sharon. Kayla has overcome many obstacles in her life and is an inspiration to so many in our community and at our school. If you are there, can you cheer and applaud extra loud for her? She still needs the encouragement to rise above the circumstances that have made her life very challenging at times.
