Love to read, always looking for suggestions. In the theme of today, here are some books by black authors that Ive read and enjoyed during quarantine
Blacktop Wasteland by SA Cosby - Protagonist is a retired getaway driver. Classic gets pulled in for one last job. Takes place in the carolinas. Good gritty action packed suspense book.
The Space Between Worlds by Miciah Johnson - Dystopian Sci-fi. Scientists have discovered how to open up portals to alternate universes. The catch is you cant travel to them if youre still alive on that Earth. You die immediately. So they go find people from impoverished areas that have a lot less chance of being alive on other planets than the rich and powerful. Good story, mystery, action, ect. Enjoyed it.
Deacon King Kong by James McBride- About a drunk Deacon that stumbles around 70s Brooklyn. He kills a local drug dealer and the community reacts from there. The sense of community and relationships is really good. This one tugs at your heart strings a bit.
The Rage of Dragons and Fires of Vengance by Evan Winter - First two books in a series. Fantasy in a west african setting. This is basically Gladiator meets A Song of Ice and Fire. It's great fast pace action w good world building.
Caste : The Origins of Our Discontent, by Isabell Wilkerson. Non fiction book. The title says it all. One of those books that everyone should read but those who need to read it most, wont.
My Grandfather Would Have Shot me, by Jennifer Teege. I usually dont like memoirs but this was nuts. Black german woman who was given up for adoption when she was 6 tries to track down her biological family. Turns out her mother was the daughter of the warden (cant pull his name off the top of my head) of the Polish Concentration camp that Schindler's List was about. Crazy crazy story
So yeah those are my recs. Would love to get some from anyone else, regardless of if the author is black or not.
