The 2010 Mizzou Tiger team...just re-watched this epic game today and this team was damn good:
We lost two regular season games back-to-back road games after the big win on Game Day vs, OU OU (at Nebraska and then at Texas Tech)
Nebraska...was perhaps a bit of a "hangover game"...and we had lost our best DT (Dominique Hamilton) in the OU game the week before we played Nebraska...our run defense got gashed and got beat by 2 TDs.
If we had only taken care of business the next week (on the road and a 3-5/8-5 Tech team) we would have still won the Big-12 North and gotten a re-match against OU in the Big-12 Title game.
A win there...and who knows?
You might recall that in pre-season camp that year we abruptly lost our best RB, Derrick Washington (and arguably our best offensive weapon) due to his legal issue.
We then ended up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the Insight Bowl against Iowa 27-24 because of Gabbert's late game interception...which I think tainted his legacy at Mizzou because it's one of our last memories of him...even though he was FANTASTIC in what was arguably the top win of GP's career against the highest ranked team that GP ever beat (OU was #3 & #4 in the polls, but #1 in the BCS the week that we beat them...and they finished the year 12-2.
OU's only other loss that year was to A&M..,a team that finished #19 in the country and a team that Mizzou beatdown 30-9.
That 2010 team was a helluva team...finishing 10-2 regular season against the #9 ranked schedule in the nation.
Yes they would have needed a few breaks to win a Conference title and more good fortune to play for the National Title...but it's a team that NEVER gets talked about in the same vein as our near miss teams of 2007 and 2013.
If we had not laid an egg @ Nebraska one week after upsetting OU...and if team Captain Derrick Washington had not gotten into trouble and missed the year...how might this season have turned out?
