I’ve glanced at their boards the last couple of Sunday mornings. A couple weeks ago the main theme was something like, “We’re only a couple of plays and breaks away from being 3-0” (they just assumed Akron was a win) to
“Is this the lowest point in Husker history?”
Frost as savior has faded rather quickly. The best he can garner are comments that he’ll probably have them back to mediocre in 3 years.
The OPTIMISTS now are hoping to beat Bethune-Cookman (replacement for the cancelled Akron game) and MAYBE one or more of Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa.
Of course I’m old enough to remember the last era of Nebraska futility, but it’s been a long time. I started closely following our Tigers when Devine took over on ‘58. His first four seasons, we shut out the nubs all 4 times.
The Bill Jennings era was the most recent, but hardly the only prolonged period of Nub futility.
We can only hope they now are only embarking on “the wilderness years”, such as we experienced for about two decades.
