TO EARLY to know...but what does your gut tell you...WHAT WILL MIZZOU's FINAL WIN TOTAL BE? Regular season only...last choice should be 2-8 to 0-11 (you cannot edit a pollo once it's posted...sorry for the typo.
I have gone round and round on this ...I study and read everything I can get my hands on and I know our Defense was bad last year and we lost 6 starters on that side of the ball.
I have concerns about TBJ's health...our lack of proven depth at DE...our LB's and our CB's...indeed the defense as a whole at virtually every position group. AND our place kicker.
I don't want to get too detailed on breaking every single detail down...so here is my main deal.
I strongly BELIEVE in Head Coach Barry Odom. He inherited a bit of a mess...but I fully admit he made some costly mistakes in year #1 on the job.
But also it was a year of Murhy's Law...what ever could go wrong...DID go wrong.
I never liked the switch to the read & react defense and I could tell from the outset the players never fully bought in.
I also was at the MTSU game and knew we were in big trouble in that game as soon as both TBJ and Michael Scherer went down.
I thought Odom really showed his mettle when he made two HUGE inseason decisions that both had to be tough.
#1 was taking over the defensive reins from his good friend in mid-season and promptly switching back to the old defensive scheme in mid-season.
#2 was firing his D-Line Coach right before a game late in rthe season.
Many of you may say that was something ANYBODY would have done...but I know one guy for certain that would have NEVER done either...GP himself.
I know how hard it is for a new Coach in his first year...and you must remember that this time last year...and Odom's very first SEC Media Days he mainly had to answer questions about why is AD had just jump ship to go to Baylor.
An angry fanbase ans horrible campus climate...no AD...no Chancelor, or Systems President...football issues aside...that is a hell of a way for a young Head Coach to break in on his first Head Coaching gig in a league like the SEC.
Bottom line:
1) I think we have a better staff that is a lot more settled in their plans
2) I think we have a better roster
3) I think we have a better (more favorable) schedule
4) I think the staff and players are a lot more settled into their roles
5) I think this team and staff is very hungry and very under valued.
6) I expect intangibles and "Lady Luck" to be a little more in our favor this year
I am going to say 9-3...really wanted to say 10-2 but there are just too many questions on defense and with the kicker at this point...but after 4 home games in September if we are 4-0... I'll be kicking myself for going low. Of course the one guy we cannot lose is Drew Lock.
I understand the National Media picking us like they have and I understand those of you that are skeptical about the program and Coach Barry Odom.
I believe in my own ability to judge and recognize the qualities in a good Head Coach...and I am telling you Barry Odom checks all the boxes of ever single quality the job demands.
I am not trolling nor do I make this statement lightly...I fully believe in my head and heart that Barry Odom will be a Coaching Superstar when all is said and done.
It's way too early to know anything for sure and at this point we are not only unsure of our own team...but of all of our opponents as well.
However...you can't be totally wait-and-see in life and especially in sports.
All I am asking of each you is...what is your guy telling you?
