The alarm bells have sounded.
Not gonna spend long on this one as there's not much to discuss, because I think it's pretty simple at this point.
Mizzou has been without their steadying presence for 2 (and counting performance 3) straight games. That results in volatility. Swings within the game, but a net negative. There's no guy right now who you can give the ball to and get a bucket consistently. And that's caused what appears to be a shot to the teams confidence. There are guys that could, but aren't.
Sure, shots not falling was a problem tonight. But looking back to the point mizzou was last up 13, let's track what Mizzou did up until the last minute when they picked up some buckets that weren't relevant (probably not coincidentally when UGA went into the bonus)
27 possessions
8 turnovers
5-19 fg (2-9 3, 3-10 2)
2-4 at the line
42 points allowed.
Not a single player stepped up consistently. Braun was solid, as was Mark. But we're talking about a bandaid on a decapitation.
The Mizzou team a month ago when they pulled even late would've found a way. This version melted like a milkshake in the summer sun.
It's a shame. They put together a pretty solid first 25 overall. But the confidence they had shifted sidelines and shit hit the fan.
My uninformed opinion is they're pressing and putting to much on themselves individually. They're at their best when they're playing team basketball.
Still time to get the ship righted, but it needs to happen. They've earned a great deal of equity but they're chewing through it with 2nd and third mortgages.
I'm not surprised to see them go through a rough stretch considering. Still room to be disappointed in how it's going down.
