1. For starters, Chicago state sucks. This isn't a surprise. KP had the game pegged at 85-53. Spread was 33. Needless to say, Mizzou outperformed those figures. So bully on that.
2. Defensively, Mizzou did what Mizzou does more often than not...stifle an opponents floor percentage. CSU made 11 fg's, 2 from 3. That's 24 points from the floor for the mathematically challenged. Pretty much a repeat of the last 3 games, just with fewer ft's (9 makes). Tigers turned CSU over 24 times with 15 steals. Rebounds were +9, but it really didn't matter. I couldn't honestly tell you what CSU wanted to do, but whatever it was, we didn't allow them to do it.
3. Offensively? A sight for sore eyes. 17-31 from 2, 16-31 from 3. A month ago, we would struggle to put up those figures against air (and often did). 13 players entered, 12 scored. Jackson was the lone man out. I think we'll be a nice piece in the future, but he's not there yet.
4. Our starting "back court" played a hell of a complete game. Brown, Mark and Dru: 31 points, 15 boards, 11 assists, 11 steals.
5. Player of the game is an easy one. Hitting open 3's is elementary my dear Watson. His 3 pt % before tonight: 19.5%. After tonight? 28.8%. Obviously this is an excellent development, going 8-13. What will be bigger...carrying it over. Hopefully Coach Cal watches tonights tape. If he can draw attention, it's already an improvement.
Anyway, not much to collectively take from tonight. Mizzou did what they should. Played well, got some guys going, no new injuries and got the walk-ons 8 points.
The non-con was saved to the extent it could be after 4-4. Now its on to league play and work remains. I'll take a deeper look at where we are and where we're headed later this week. Start will not be easy, but where challenges lie, so too does opportunity. Lets make some noise. New decade, start it off strong.
