1. The sound that you heard out of Columbia today was a big wet fart. Football, baseball and softball had postseason bans upheld, men's basketball leaves another brown substance on the hardwood in a first half.
2. I don't know what to say about the start of games. Tonight I guess I can vaguely comprehend a bit, what with the short turnaround and two teams coming off a double digit losses. But whatever the team is doing to get prepared to play needs to be scrapped. It's. Not. Working. Back to back nights down 15-3. Both ending the first half at that deficit. Throw in the Xavier grabass, and even poor starts leading to one possession games at half Vs ucm and Morehead. It's inexplicable. And it's really ****ing up their season.
3. Neither OU or Butler are bad teams. In fact, I'd say both are pretty good. But that's not the story here. Mizzou came out and got blown off the court in the opening minutes. They're not that good.
4. I got chided for pointing out that mizzou played reasonably well afterwards...they did again tonight. But this team is not build to overcome big deficits. They cannot continue to fail to show up.
5. We got about 5 minutes of great Tilmon. Mark came on a bit. Torrence kept this from being an absolute rout. But we had 2 in double figures. Barely. Pinson rode a lot of pine tonight, so that will be something worth watching.
6. I feel like officials need a refresher course on what is an offense foul. Both sides tonight. The most costly was the layin by Mark that was waved off. Went from potentially 4 points to 18.
7. Credit for the fight after the poor start. It's not going to change the narrative, nor should it. They ran out of gas trying to overcome the inexcusable start
8. Mizzou finished 8-24 from 3. Not great, better. Of course, we were 5-21 before ou pulled away. An ongoing problem. The only other notable statistical deficit was turnovers, where we were -5. I'd wager a fair sum were these offensive fouls.
Bad 26 hours all around. The season is young. The die is not cast. But there are MAJOR things that have to turn around. I don't know that they will, I hope it's the case but am markedly less confident than a week ago. It's going to be a long winter if they don't. Not many games in December so there's a chance with additional tape and reps in practice we see it. But if you drew up a scenario that could be described in "meh," the first 7 games did it. Not what you want when trying to build momentum early on. Nothing that can't be overcome with the team we think this group can be...but not something that gives you any confidence it will.
P.S. probably top 5 least enjoyable recaps to write.
