SB Nation runs a calculation to show postgame win percentage of a game based on their analysis of the key stats.
On Saturday, Mizzou had a postgame win percentage of 96%. Mizzou outplayed SC so thoroughly that they only lose that game 4% of the time, yet somehow they managed it.
I can't decide if that is a positive or a negative for Barry Odom.
On the negative side, there is nothing good about losing key games on the road that you absolutely should have won. Especially considering some of the ways they shot themselves in the foot - red zone ineptitude, poor defensive calls, penalties at the most critical times.
On the positive side, his team just completely dominated South Carolina on the road and should have won going away. For comparison, according to SB Nation's objective numerical analysis, Saturday's game was equivalent to the way Georgia beat SC in every category except the scoreboard. Mizzou gave Georgia their toughest game of the year by all measures (we had a 36% postgame win % in that one, next highest for GA opponents has been 2.9%). Some impartial observers may think it's crazy to fire a coach whose team should be 4-1 with two P5 road wins and whose only loss is to the #2 team in the country. That is miles away from getting beat 35-7 at home against Purdue a year ago.
Moral victories suck, but over the past two years in almost every game against "good" teams they got destroyed.
I think we'll figure out a lot about Barry Odom and this team when they play against FL, UK and even Memphis. If you keep losing games you should win, that's a problem.
