PowerMizzou.com is pleased to announce a pair of upcoming staff moves.
After receiving more than 50 applications and conducting more than a half dozen interviews, we have hired Mitchell Forde, a recent graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism, to join the team full-time.
Forde graduated from Mizzou in May of 2017 with a journalism degree. During his four years in Columbia, he was a member of the Tiger swim team and a three-year SEC Honor Roll member. Forde grew up in Louisville, KY before moving to Columbia to attend Mizzou. After graduation, Forde interned last summer at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where he assisted daily on coverage of the St. Louis Cardinals. He has also done work for The Athletic, Cox Media and some recruiting coverage for various outlets.
Journalism bloodlines run in Forde’s family. His father, Pat, is a graduate of the Mizzou journalism school and has been a national college writer for ESPN and Yahoo! Sports for the previous 13 years.
With PowerMizzou.com, Forde will assist in daily coverage of the Mizzou men’s basketball and football teams as well as chipping in on recruiting coverage and major Olympic Sports storylines. He will begin working with us shortly after National Signing Day on February 7th.
Here are a few examples of Forde's writing:
Story for the Athletic on problems facing SLU basketball (premium article)
Vox Magazine feature on Westminster football player and Purple Heart winner Bret Robertson
St. Louis Post-Dispatch story on Luke Voit’s first major league home run
Post-Dispatch feature on Tanner Houck
Mitchell has followed Mizzou sports his entire life and was an athlete here. He has more knowledge of the Tigers and their history than just about anyone who applied.
In conjunction with bringing Forde aboard to augment our team coverage, recruiting writer Sean Williams is being promoted to full-time recruiting editor for the site. Williams has assisted in our coverage of Tiger football recruiting for the last year-and-a-half. In his new role, Williams will be in charge of running daily recruiting coverage for PowerMizzou.com, both writing and assigning stories.
Williams has been in the rivals.com network for five years. He has done recruiting coverage for multiple sites across the Rivals network.
Keegan Pope remains on the staff helping to cover basketball and recruiting while working his way through graduate school at Mizzou. Joe Walljasper's weekly columns, Anne Rogers' coverage of the women's basketball program, Jordan Kodner's photos and more to come this semester give us the biggest and best team of anyone that covers Mizzou sports. Plus, I'm here to keep you all in line.
With these additions, we are confident PowerMizzou.com will continue to be the leading source for news for every Tiger fan.
We are setting Mitchell's account up currently and he may check in now and again prior to his official start date. @Sean_Williams is already here, so he'll read all your congratulatory posts.
