Dual threat QB's have a huge leg up. The running opens up the passing and vice versa. We see it all the time in college football. QB's routinely take off and convert on third down with their legs. They keep drives alive. They force teams to defend and respect the pass and then take advantage of the slightest opening when a running lane is open.

The Mizzou QB running game is absolutely non-existent. I do not understand what is going here? Maty is a dual threat QB. Right? Because the Maty I continue to watch refuses to run the ball. He gets tracked down running to the sideline by FCS defensive ends. What happened? He throws up prayers instead of stepping up and running up the middle of the field???

IMO, A Maty Mauk that DOES NOT put pressure on a defense with his legs has no business being a starter for this team. There are plenty of immobile QB's that throw a better ball. What Maty can do effectively is get to the sticks with his legs and force the defense to account for him. When he can't do that, than the defense only has to account for a wild QB who likes to take risks deep and completely ignores half the field.

How did Maty end up a pocket passer who hates/refuses to be in the pocket but utterly refuses to run the damn ball?

The frustrating thing about watching Mauk is that you know he is capable of so much more. You know it. He is fast. He has a gun. But he just isn't any better. He is the same QB that goes long stretches without moving the chains. He is the same QB that locks onto receivers and ignores half the field.

I feel that Maty needs to use his legs to be effective. He needs to run. He needs to run a lot. And I don't see the point of playing a guy who is clearly not the best drop back/pocket passer on his team when that is ALL HE IS RIGHT NOW.

If he ever decides to be a dual threat guy then he can help this team. Not sure how the kid improved in the offseason. Not sure what losing the extra weight or body fat % did for him. He still can't run for positive yardage. He still looks clueless running for his life. He still isn't putting pressure on a defense. He still bails left way to early. WTF???

And realistically he did not play awful yesterday. He had atleast one dropped td pass. But his inability to move the chains and pick up first downs as the captain of this ship is a glaring problem. And this is a problem that should manifest itself against D1 teams not FCS level squads. He has to move the chains. He cannot make us so one dimensional.

If Mauk is HS Maty who can use his legs to put pressure on a defense he can do things Lock cannot. But I ask you, what would the score have been had DL been given Maty's playing time? The answer is we would have scored over 50. Because he would have taken what was available and kept the drives churning. The MM disappearing act is getting old. And under no circumstances should we be okay with the fact that his inefficiencies cannot even be masked while playing SEMO. There are real problems with here.
