I'm not saying that Drinkwitz doesn't have the qualities to be the right coach, but I think it's fair to suggest that it's not trending in the right direction. If I had a say in the status of our current coach, this is what I'd be looking at:
I have no access to the team, so don't know how to measure it. I wish our local media could access this information, but I get why the program would install barriers to discourage us from knowing that. However, I do hope that Reed-Francois is looking at those two factors as I think those two are what we need to get the program back on track. We don't necessarily need the "personality" and "charm" that wins over recruits. That might work for a year or two but if you don't have those first two traits, you're not winning at Mizzou.
- Check out the atmosphere and attitude of the team at this moment. Do they appear motivated? Are they putting the time in film study. These factors speak to culture and I don't think it starts with wins, but rather how does the team respond to losses.
- Look at the player development over the last three years. When looking at Drinkwitz's first class, have the players gotten stronger and faster? How quickly are they adapting to the playbook? Are 10% or more of the recruits trending toward getting drafted? As for previous two classes, they all don't have to be on the two-deep, but are we seeing marginal increases in their speed and strength.
