First of all, obviously very good news that he didn't tear any ligaments. Assuming what Drinkwitz told us today is accurate, it's a best case scenario.
NOW for the wet blanket.
A forearm strain or forearm pain is VERY OFTEN a precursor to tearing your UCL. If you come back to soon, if it's not handled 100% correctly, a guy who left an outing with forearm pain will very often end up tearing his UCL and having Tommy John surgery not too long after.
Given that, if I'm Drinkwitz, I'm sure pushing for Horn to be shut down for a lot longer than two weeks baseball wise. Sheerly from a Mizzou football perspective, the best thing is for him not to throw another pitch this season.
In addition, there's a starting QB battle going on right now. If Horn is serious about winning that, I'd think it's going to take everything he's got both physically and mentally being focused on football.
It's a delicate balance. Missouri promised him the ability to play both and owes him that. It's part of the deal they made to get him. But with the injury scare, I wonder how long it is before you have to have a conversation about whether splitting time is reasonable and smart. I'm not saying you have to make the kid choose right now, but again, if I'm the head football coach, I sure don't want to see the kid throw another pitch this season. Because the only thing worse than him having torn his UCL Saturday would be him doing it four weeks from now.
