-Not an ideal beginning to the start of the second half. Memphis thoroughly won the "middle eight." It seemed like it completely drained Mizzou of its energy after that - took the crowd out of the game too.
-Gates subbed significantly less in the second half. I thought it was interesting that Gates let two of the freshmen get extended run, though, it's not like the guys playing in front of them were doing much better.
-Ant Robinson made some big-boy free throws. Mizzou was dead in the water before he got fouled on the 3-pointer. The crowd livened up after he knocked down his foul shots and got Mizzou back into it. He's had a good impact in the limited chances he's gotten.
-Unfortunately for Mizzou, despite the team getting stops and getting to the line, they missed three free throws. It was a blown opportunity to start the comeback. The baskets were just too far and few between to build momentum. I don't think that'll be too common for them though.
-I really do think this game looks different with Vanover in the mix. Jordan Brown gave Mizzou a lot of trouble on both ends sheerly because of his size. The other bigs on the roster can fill in as stopgaps at the five, but it would've helped a whole lot to have a true rim protector against a team that liked to get it inside. Mizzou got away with it last year because of how good they were offensively. When the offense isn't cooking though, issue gets underscored a bit more.
-Sean East kind of disappeared in the second half. I'm don't know if he got a shot off. He definitely wasn't nearly as aggressive as he was in the first.
-This loss alone isn't going to wreck Mizzou's entire season. Memphis is good and will probably make the tournament. There are worse teams to lose to. The important thing will be to not let it snowball. Last year's team was usually able to bounce back from adversity, that'll be the key here.
