UCLA has to inform him by Dec 18 that they are keeping him under contract or his contract terminates. From reading some articles the general thought is Kelly isnt keeping Fisch, but if that was to change, it would have to happen before the 18th. Obviously something would be worked out to allow him to coach through the bowl game. But UCLA wont waste money by not allowing the contract to terminate.
It appears that Kelly would like to keep Fisch, but Kelly will take over play calling. Fisch is not interested in a diminished role. Apparently he was in the running for the UCF head job.
Kelly has named all positions of his staff except for OC.
From the horses mouth:
The two offensive-minded coaches spoke extensively when Kelly first took over, but they have kept their distance lately, Fisch said. “We’ve talked initially about it, but I think we’ll figure that out after the bowl game,” Fisch said of his role on next year’s staff. “I would believe that both of us like calling plays and both of us have taken on the role of running the offense and I’ll leave it at that.”
The article points out that Fisch was co-OC at Michigan and left to have control at UCLA.
