— I never doubted they were going to win that game yesterday, just like I never doubted they were gonna win at LSU as soon as they came out of the halftime locker room in Baton Rouge like a house afire.
— Dennis Gates is the SEC coach of the year. No two ways about it. Should be in the national discussion as well.
— Unsung Saturday hero: Aidan Shaw. In 18 minutes he had 6 points and 5 rebounds, with 4 of those coming on the offensive end.
— Shaw is the perfect example of the remarkable job Gates has done. Remember all those games he couldn’t get off the bench. I don’t know what the message was, but these kids kept believing in the guy.
— Same with Nick Carter. Lost his starting job. Didn’t complain. Had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
— More timeouts called at the perfect time. Most coaches burn them late after a made bucket. Gates uses them to set up buckets. See the Carter FG-and-one that stretched the lead to 5.
— 5 more steals for Hodge. 5! Could’ve easily had 7 or 8.
—Nick Honor: An off shooting night, but 5 assists, 3 steals and only 1 turnover. Rock-solid. Just like he’s been all season.
— Another great atmosphere. Thanks to those who were there.
— Arkansas is the 10-seed. Too funny! (Sorry. Got off track.)
— You can tell from the Senior Day photos and videos what a special environment Gates has built in such a short time. Quite remarkable. Good day to have a top recruit in the building. Just sayin’.
— Tired of the Big 12 hype. After KU and Texas, the next six are good but not great teams who beat up on one another. Sadly, I don’t think the committee will see it that way.
— Someone is gonna have to explain the NET to me. I won’t waste your time with details, but Florida Atlantic at 15, with a gaudy 21-0 mark in Quads 3 and 4? Utah State, which got its first Quad 1 win last night (1-4) and is 2-2 in Quad 4? And what did North Texas do to jump from 50th to 39th?
— That said, stop with the angst about being an 8- or 9-seed. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t much matter. You’re probably going to have to beat a 1-seed at some point down the road. Also like the prospect of a 1-seed having short time to prep for what this team does. Nobody is gonna want to play these guys.
— 23-8 and 11-7 with a double bye. Who had that on your bingo card back in November?
— Thank you, DRF.
— This party is just getting started.
