—Bama was the better team. Too much length. Missed a lot of point-blank shots, but that was largely due to that length.
—Tired legs. Plain and simple. You could see it from the start. A lot of shots coming up short. Evidenced by the 7-of-25 from deep. Most of them on wide open looks. Wide open.
—Thus team accomplished everything it needed to. Beat a good team. Hung with Bama. I don’t know what would’ve been gained from playing a Sunday slugfest, esp against the Aggies. Just a horrible matchup. Get rested. Get ready for Thursday/Friday.
—Best thing to come out of the weekend: improved rebounding Got physical with Tennessee (34-28). First half wasn’t great against Bama, but it was pretty much a draw in the second. Got to more loose balls, too.
—Five turnovers is impressive. Comes off a game in which we turned it over 3 times in the last 20-plus minutes.
—Thank goodness this is the last we will hear from Jimmy Dykes. Spent the first 30 minutes talking about how Bama couldn’t make a 3. Never once mentioned how that was Mizzou’s game as well. A couple more made 3s on some of those wide open looks. Who knows?
—D’Moi Hodge! Thank you!
—I love Diarra’s energy, but the focus in the offseason has to be getting the game to slow down for him. He bobbles passes and rebounds in his excitement. And he needs to play solely around the basket. No more 3s. I don’t know how you fix that, But I’m confident Gates will.
—Some discussion about Caleb Love. Hard pass. Some have described him as a streak shooter. If one good game sandwiched among four or five bad one is streaky, then yes. Forced shots. A high-volume shooter. A 1-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. No thanks. He played 36 minutes a game. How would he react to playing 15 minutes on a bad night? He is everything this team isn’t. Which brings me to my next point …
—Echoing what Gabe said yesterday, how can you not love this team? They just don’t quit. They keep coming at you. This will serve them well come Thursday/Friday.
—Buckle up, gang. This is gonna be fun.
