Just a few points for those who have already made up their minds that it will be a disaster:
1) Josh Henson was promoted to our OC and Andy Hill our QB Coach in 2013 with far less experience/qualifications and with a talented roster in 2013 improved our offensive scoring from a rank of 80th in the country to 13th in their first year...while the team record improved from 5-7 to 12-2.
2) As this duo became more experienced in those roles...the on field performance actually dramatically declined as the offensive talent dramatically fell off....hmmmmm. How could that be?
3) No...Dooley has never been an OC or a QB Coach but he has many years of very high level experience almost all of which has concentrated on the offensive side of the ball....yet many posts on here seem to suggest he just fell off a turnip truck.
4) We have a very talented offensive roster coming back and we were willing to pay nearly a million dollars per year for a 3-year contract for somebody to come in and completely take control of it...yet nobody else wanted the job....REALLY?
5) Here is the biggest reason: Odom took his time on this hire and lots of highly qualified candidates were interviewed and wanted the job. Only Odom knew what he was looking for. I feel comforatble in saying that Odom has far more knowledge and skill in selecting his man than anybody on this board. He actually TALKED to all the candidates...and did more than a google search on every one of them. He chose Dooley after an extensive, detailed search...but Odom is an idiot and and all the nay sayers on this board know better than him? PLEASE.
Perhaps, Odom knows what he is doing. I feel comfortable in saying that he knows better than anbody else just how important this hire was and that his career depeds on him making the right hire.
I agree that this decision will MAKE or BREAK Odom's career at Mizzou...and I trust that he made the right call.
Do I know 100% that it will be successful? No. Do any of you know that it won't be? No again.
As always...only time will tell. Seems only fair to at least give Dooley a series or two...or maybe even a game or two before we all make up our minds...no?
But Hey...that's just me.
