Yes I’m older than a lot of posters here. But I’ve been thinking about the 1978 season and the exhilaration of getting a bowl bid. Students stormed Faurot Field and tore down the goalposts after the Nebraska game (yes the game was in Lincoln). The scoreboard was flashing “Bowl Bid”! “Bowl Bid”! Of course this was a time before there were so many bowls. The enthusiasm for going to a bowl was at a fever pitch when it was announced we were going to the Liberty Bowl and playing LSU. We sold out of our allotment of tickets in no time and even bought most of LSU’s because they couldn’t give tickets away. LSU had lost 2 of their last 4 games and excitement had waned. So we had Mizzou fans at both end zones and the M-I-Z, Z-O-U cheer was thunderous! Great memories!
