This is a conversation worth having and data worth sharing. This journalist, data scientist, and attorney wrecked his $350k/yr job at Reuters in an effort to publish the truth. He was isolated, punished for it, and then fired.
How many black people have been killed due to the false narrative that police disproportionately kill more black people than white people (armed, unarmed, dangerous scenarios, etc., all the same)? Has this false narrative served as behavioral guide to young black men in their interactions with police, causing them to run from questioning or physically resist arrest? These are all relevant questions. And there are many more, which the author touches on in his essay.
Primarily, though, we are seeing here yet another example of social justice causes trumping data and truth in journalism. It's the most serious problem we face right now in America. Who can we actually believe?? Who?

I Criticized BLM. Then I Was Fired.
The data about police shootings just didn't add up, but no one at Thomson Reuters wanted to hear it.
