Brandon Jones sent out an offer to a recruit close to home.
The Missouri offensive line coach extended a scholarship to four-star tackle Kennedy Brown on Thursday. Brown, the No. 79 recruit in the 2027 class, is a rising junior at Kingwood (Tex.) High, a suburb north of Houston.
Jones spent four seasons at Houston prior to joining Missouri ahead of the 2023 season. His recruiting prowess has extended the Tigers' reach for premier high school offensive linemen in Texas.
"Someone else from Houston, that's a great add on," said Brown, who is originally from Indianapolis. "Because he knows how it is and Texas overall."
Brown, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound lineman, had already picked up two prior SEC offers -- Mississippi and Texas A&M -- but with Missouri being further from home, the interest from the Tigers came as a surprise.
"I was confused. I'm like, 'Mizzou, eh?'" Brown recounted. "Me and my mother, we're going to research more about it."
Brown excelled in pass protection and at finishing blocks with aggression, but he also pointed to areas needing improvement, especially when staying consistent and deep in his hips.
"Me turning my hips or being too impatient and shooting my hands," Brown said.
Early into his recruitment, Brown has prioritized relationships. Nebraska, Southern Methodist, Texas, Texas A&M and USC have emerged as early standouts, keeping in close contact with staffers from all five programs.
Brown will be at Texas A&M this weekend to compete in a high school track and field meet and Nebraska on March 29 for an unofficial visit.
