Dayton Moore made his (nearly) annual visit to the Tiger Club of Kansas City today at the Westport Flea Market in KC.
Moore, whose official title is Senior VP-Baseball Operations/General Manager, joined the Royals in 2006 from the Atlanta Braves organization. The Wichita, Ks native earned a degree in physical education and health from George Mason University in 1989, going on to earn his master’s in athletic administration from GMU three years later.
Moore ended up at GMU after two years at Garden City (Kansas) Community College. But were it not for a future Major Leaguer and Olympian, Moore might have had a different path in college, according to his book, “More Than a Season: Building a Championship Culture.”
Besides two World Series appearances -- including a Championship in 2015 – Moore has endeared himself to the KC community with his off-the-field success. In 2013, he founded C You In The Major Leagues, a foundation which supports youth baseball, education, families in crisis and faith-based programs and organizations. He and wife Marianne are involved in numerous other civic organizations in Kansas City.
The Tiger Club of KC meets every Tuesday at the Westport Flea Market Bar and Grill. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. with the program beginning at Noon. Our Tuesday, February 13 guest speaker will be Mizzou football coaching legend Gary Pinkel.

During my senior year of high school, with my sights set on continuing my baseball career at the University of Missouri, I went to a Cincinnati Reds tryout camp. Larry Smith, a Reds scout, came up to me and asked where I was going to school.
"I'm thinking about going to the University of Missouri," I said with a tone that told him my options were still open, especially if I had a chance to sign a professional contract.
“’You won’t play if you go there because Dave Silvestri will be the starting shortstop there this year,” he said. “There’s a junior college in Kansas I’d like you to think about instead of Missouri.”
