Life is precious. Don't ever take it for granted. If you're a parent, tell your children you love them every time you see, talk to or text with them. If you have parents, tell them the same.

One of the bright, fun and optimistic young adults in our tailgate crew passed away yesterday. Some of you youngsters may know him. Nathan Blount was 24. A True Son, Columbia native, 2016 grad of the business school, member of the Tour Team (2014-16) and a valued manager at Veterans United. Nathan also worked part-time tending bar at Gunter Hans.

He had been on an Alumni Association trip to Switzerland with his mother, Dr. Robin Blount, chief medical officer at Boone Hospital Center. When they arrived at O'Hare airport yesterday, he collapsed and never recovered.

I cannot imagine the pain his mother, father, two brothers and sister-in-law feel right now. I imagine it may be doubly difficult for them because they are all doctors and may wonder what they missed. Maybe one day his mom will find some comfort that she was with him and did all in her medical knowledge to try to revive him.

We can prepare for the passing of a parent or grandparent who lived a long, productive life. We can never prepare for the passing of life taken too soon.

MIZ, Nathan. Our tailgates will have a huge void from now on.
