What is the rationale behind having more players on a team than scholarships allowed? Sports like wrestling, softball, baseball etc get by with partial scholarships.
I know Title IX implications come in to play and there has to be an accounting of the # of scholarships given in football, but why have such a stupid rule?
Second question is suppose a donor gave $2 mil for scholarship purposes for softball.
Could a university then offer all players a full scholarship?
If the answer is "no", then perhaps in time that too will be challenged.
