The SEC deciding to put the conference basketball tourney in St Louis is huge.
Listening to XM radio this morning, they phrased it as "The SEC is throwing a bone to the Missouri Tigers." Maybe this is an attempt to draw more of the St Louis market into the SEC, but it is still a gift from the conference to Mizzou. I strongly doubt the Big Ten would have moved their tourney to The 'Lou.
If you have never been to a conference tournament, it is a ton of fun. The years of the Big Eight and Big XII in KC were outstanding. The fans from all the schools streaming into Kemper and the Sprint center made for an unbelievable atmosphere. Even better than regional NCAA games, in my opinion. I truly hope fans from other schools travel to St Louis to enhance the atmosphere, and not just Kentucky.
This tournament belongs in Nashville, but an occasional departure to St Louis, New Orleans, or even Florida is a nice way to spread the SEC love.
