We have had discussions here about several coaches who have taken a step back from D1 to take assistant positions, and others who have stepped away all together... I thought this article did a good job describing Pat Knight's move from NBA Front Office to NAIA and why he would take such a step. Sure, it helps when you have money to make this kind of choice, but it would not surprise me to see more coaches who COULD be good D1 coaches either pass on the opportunity or take a step back. As the Dellenger article quoted several SEC folks... what are the rules? where are the boundaries? This is more like dealing with unrestricted free agents than with young adults trying to get an education... I have a feeling more are going to be asking "why did I get into this"... if it is for them money and prestige, then D1 headaches are for you. If it is for the kids and impacting their lives... maybe not so much anymore.
