I am hesitant to post this as I really am not trying to have a debate on yea or nay on this issue. However, one of my frustrations after last fall's protest was that Mizzou was painted in such a light as to suggest that our issues were somehow unique on US college campuses.....they most certainly are not.
After seeing the responses to the Nebraska players' anthem protest from last weekend and the proliferation of these protests, it seems easier for our coaches and administrators to simply point out that these are discussions and issues were facing nationally and not simply at Mizzou. In fact, maybe there's a positive to be had from that perspective as we engage prospective minority students.
* PS- I want to be clear that I'm not advocating for either the anthem protests or the earlier campus protests from last year; however, they are a reality and I am focusing on how to best address them with future Tigers, period.
