that would be late February....at which point the college basketball season is still ongoing.

I'm having a tough time envisioning a scenario in which his family would let him return though even if he's completely healthy by then which is frustrating. But isn't it fair to say that a normal college basketball player's season might not quite be completely over yet?

In 1988 Lynn Hardy suffered a back injury that threatened his entire season and it was mostly assumed he was out for the year. He did wind up coming back for the last 2 regular season games and the conference and NCAA tournaments; played extremely well in leading Mizzou to within 3 points of upsetting eventual national runner up Oklahoma in the conference tournament.

Again, I tend to imagine that with how the Porter family is handling this whole thing, we will absolutely never hear "he's healed" until well after the season so that any sort of criticism or urging of him to come back and play can be totally quelled.

But in that regard it seems like a miscommunication or miscue for Mizzou to put 3 to 4 months in the official statement. By saying that, they have to know they are going to be getting media and fan questions galore about his recovery status again 3 months from now...when the season won't be over yet.
