I'm a few days late in posting this, but wanted to drop a little info on softball as we get ready to start the season.
First pitch Thursday night!
- A new pitching coach has been hired to fill the opening. Gina will focus on offense, Adam will transition to defense, and a new pitching coach has been hired. Can't specify who, but I expected it to be announced today. He will be with the team in Arizona this weekend. The pitching staff is very excited.
- Taylor Kirby and Jolie Dufner have left the team. This is recent, but playing time cited as the reason.
- I am confident the players would be thrilled if Pete D'Amour became our coach (he's my pick).
- Kendyll Bailey missed the B&G game with a shoulder injury. It sounds like something she could play through, but no decision has been made if she'll give it a go or redshirt (as of Saturday).
- If the regional championship were today, I expect we would have all returners in the infield and outfield, which is surprising considering how good the freshman class is. Callie Martin is the one freshman who could change this prediction, IMO.
- Of the freshmen catchers, I think Hattie Moore is the preference. The pitchers are most comfortable with her, and see seems to be poised to secure the most PT behind the plate.
- Lauren Rice throws hard! In the B&G game almost everything that was hit was put on the ground, which is a good thing.
