Talked to Rob Sellers, who covers Houston for us. He said reaction to Rhoades leaving is a little mixed, but most are sad to lose him. Said he definitely left the school in a better place than when he got there in 2009.
Strength: "He's a big money raiser." Has built new football stadiums at each of his two stops.
Question Mark: Coaching hires. Replaced Tom Penders with James Dickey, which didn't work and now Kelvin Sampson, a hire Houston people like but is to be determined. Inherited Kevin Sumlin, replaced him with Tony Levine who he fired. Replacement is Ohio State OC Tom Hermann who is viewed as a great hire, but he hasn't coached a game yet.
Couple guys to keep an eye on that could come with Rhoades are his top internal relations guy Jeremiah Dickey. I'll post the full Q&A with Sellers later this morning.
