So, here's my thing with HCBO: I don't know what to expect from him, and that concerns me.
People have talked about HCGP and how long it took him to get the train on the tracks. During the process, we knew what to expect when the Tigers took the field. We came to expect disciplined teams that did not make mental errors or give the football away. We came to expect a level of toughness we haven't seen with this team. We saw a team, while over matched in the talent department, go toe to toe with Auburn, and play in another SEC title game. We saw a team that spread the ball around and used the route tree for more than homerun balls.
I don't know what to expect from a HCBO coached football team. What's his fingerprint? We ALL thought Dan Mullen would need more time at UF, but he's made us all liars. Obviously HCBO is not Dan Mullen, but does anyone know what HCBO football actually looks like? Toughness on defense? Kids that will come up and smack the shit outa you? Some swag and attitude on the field. I've seen little "on field" leadership from this club. Who's the guy who's gonna take it upon himself to make a play? I can list 10 coaches, and we can all say what we know about how their teams play football.
I don't think he should be fired. I think he's turned the recruiting corner and needs to integrate more JUCO kids. I think he needs to tell us WTF he's doing, so we can identify this program. The Drew Lock experiment is over. He's gonna get Tuesday direct deposits. If we're going to focus on winning games and preparing this offense for the guy who's "next up," we'd better make a commitment to running the football at least 50x per game, using Badie out of the backfield and in the slot, putting Albert O in matchup wins, and having Lock keep the ball on RPO. We heard so much about Nick Bolton, but haven't seen him get any meaningful snaps. There's absolutely no rotation with the linebackers at all. I'd just as soon take Lee off the field and use a Viper who can play at all 3 levels.
Anyway, this is less about X's and O's, and more about the character makeup of this team. I'm just not sure what to expect when they take the field. Maybe it's just me.
