I've followed SEC football for as long as I've watched FB (sadly over 40 years). In that time, Vanderbilt has been pretty bad with the exception of a few good years under Franklin.
I can assume like Duke, Stanford, Rice, academies etc. that some of their struggles can be explained by elevated requirements for their student-athletes but I was just curious if anyone was particularly knowledgeable about Vandy's specific situation?
Standford seems to have figured it out. World-class education with seemingly awesome facilities and above-average coaching. Duke you could argue does pretty well all-in with football being decent but obviously lagging BB.
Vandy is also a world-class education in a great, growing metro area in the South. The only thing that makes sense is sub-par facilities and arguable coaching talent. Certainly, there's gotta be some deep pockets at Vandy, so it's always perplexed me.
Does anyone have more insight?
