Sporting KC just beat STLFC 1-0 in the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup. I didn't watch but followed along on Twitter. Sporting took the lead on a 70th minute goal from Zusi. The fact Zusi was playing means Sporting took the game seriously and used a strong lineup. I have no idea if STLFC tried to score or if they parked the bus. Either way, losing 1-0 is a good result against an MLS team using its starters on the road.
On a side note, the crowd of 19,000+ was a U.S. Open Cup 4th round record. As I said a couple weeks ago, these games average 2,000ish in other cities. KC media and soccer bloggers said StL fans traveled well.
I'm glad Sporting won, but STLFC can hold their head up. Now get into MLS somehow so this can be a regular thing.
