I teach at Ben Davis HS in Indy, program that has sent Daylan Carnell and former signed Pompey Coleman to the good guys. I ran into our HC after school today and asked him how Drink and Co. have been able to build relationships in their 1st year under COVID circumstances.
He said that before the shutdown DJ Smith came to the school and re-committed the offer to DC and began to build a relationship with Coach Simmons. Coach said that not all college programs include the HS coach as purposefully as our staff has. Coach Smith communicates with Simmons regularly. Often during the season DJ would text coach and the 4th or 5th question would be about the recruit. Drink reached out on signing day and thanked Simmons for the role he played in the development of DC, personally and athletically.
