At this point the only obvious upgrade on the board is McElwain. Anyone else on the list and most fans are going to say “We fired Odom for this guy?” And I could see where they’re coming from. Trust me I wasn’t a fan of the Odom hire from day one. I thought he was in over his head. I know he was arrogant, and drove away a lot of people during his time here.
But this now seems rushed. Only the die hards were calling for Odom’s job. If you really think he wasn’t the right guy, let him stick around and use next year to find the guy. Get somebody the fan base would actually be excited about.
Probably also not a great move asking that they keep a couple of the position coaches on. Especially Andy Hill. That guy has been switched around from role to role because he ended up failing at every position and getting replaced. Keeping him around for continuity and legacy at this point is the definition of insanity.
This is what we’re hearing kept Healy from taking the job. You think he’s a great coach? Cool. Let him bring in his own coaching staff. That’s how it work
At this point he Sterk needs to salvage what he can. Hopefully he can get McElwain. If not, getting some random no name journeyman with a meh record and mediocre recruiting ability is going to drive more fans away. Scour the blue blood OC ranks. Tony Elliott would be an absolute hit with the fan base, and recruit STL better than we ever have. Give fans hope that you’re bringing in the next big thing. Settling for meh is going to further deplete donations and attendance.
