:Missouri's new Head Baseball Coach was guest speaker today at the Tiger Club of Kansas City.
The word on nearly everyone' lips coming out of the meeting was"impressive".
After he commented that he feels very strongly that MU needs to install an artificial surface at Taylor Stadium in order to be competitive, he was asked about the rumors that former Tigers in MLB had offered large sums to build new facilities. He did not dodge the question and acknowledged that those offers were tied to the hiring of Tony Vitello. To me, it says an awful lot about Bieser that even with beaucoup dollars being dangled in front of Rhoades and whoever was making the selection to offer the job to Vitello, that Bieser prevailed.
He is all business, yet personable. He has specific plans and goals and is not shy about his belief that Missouri can and will be competing for SEC championships and College Word Series runs.
One of his more impressive presentations was about his scientific approach to the game. He detailed pitch recognition programs and explained how for every 10 milliseconds sooner the batter recognizes the pitch it has the effect of lowering the speed of the pitch by 2 mph.
He spoke about the addition of of Brian McRae to the staff and what role he would play as a student manager.
He spoke about dealing with the scholarship situation and (as Tim Jamieson often did) the disadvantage we have vis-a-vis schools like Georgia and Arkansas regarding academic scholarship monies.
He wants to continue scheduling games in St. Louis on a regular basis and ants to do likewise with the K.
Overall, i think he presents very well. Time will tell whether or not he will be successful at MU. My early guess is that he will be.
