As promised, a rundown of the Missouri swim team's performance at the SEC Championships:

The men finished in fifth place, the same as last year, beating Auburn by just 3 points. Considering how much the team lost to graduation last season, finishing fifth again is impressive. MVPs of the meet were junior Mikel Schreuders, who finished 3rd in the 200 freestyle, 7th in the 100 freestyle and 17th in the 50 freestyle; freshman Carter Grimes, who finished 9th in the 400 IM (with a new school record), 11th in the 200 butterfly and 22nd in the 200 backstroke; and junior Jacob Wielinski, a transfer from North Dakota who finished 2nd in the mile (school record) and 21st in the 500 freestyle. All three of those swimmers will likely qualify for the NCAA Championships, as will junior Alex Walton. The team will have one more chance to qualify swimmers for NCAA's next weekend.

The women's team finished in 6th place overall, which also matched last year's placing. Senior Sharli Brady finished 3rd in the 200 butterfly, 5th in the 400 IM and 10th in the 200 IM. Senior Hannah Stevens was 2nd in the 100 backstroke, 9th in the 200 backstroke and 14th in the 50 freestyle. Junior Ann Ochitwa was 4th in the 100 butterfly, 5th in the 100 freestyle and 9th in the 50 freestyle. Senior diver Madeline McKernan got on the podium by placing third in platform diving. All three of those swimmers should have locked up spots at the NCAA Championships, where they will likely be joined by Courtney Evensen, Erin Metzger-Seymour, Kira Zubar and Haley Hynes. The women should be set up to make a run at topping last year's 13th place overall finish at NCAA's, which I believe was the best finish in program history.
