Thought you guys would like to know, I was talking with a source with an NBA team who told me he was talking with the front office yesterday about both Tamar Bates and Caleb Grill.
He emphasized that Bates has been killing the pre-draft prospect and has worked his way *for now* into conversations around the late first round. He said it depends on if other teams view Bates as highly as his team does, but "Could be anywhere from 25-45 maybe. A team could move up and get him."
He said that's the range where teams are willing to take a chance on "Their guy" rather than risk waiting to get him as an undrafted guy. He wanted to emphasize though that things can change moving forward, but Bates has really impressed people recently.
On Grill, he said the shooting is keeping him in conversations, but it's likely he's still going to have to work through the G League to really get a shot.
