I saw a stat over the weekend that Florida is short over 9,000 teachers heading into fall, 9,000 unfilled positions. How should they solve this?
  • I would offer to transfer pension guarantees to encourage teachers with experience to move from other states. One reason not to move if you have 20 years exp is that you are close to getting that pension and don't want to lose it. Florida could try to curb that issue by offering to cover the loss.
  • Increase pay, considerably
  • Increase class sizes, it is going to happen.
  • Require NY to send some teachers and pension money down to help alleviate their refugee crisis flooding into Florida

I talk to a buddy whose wife is a teacher and Florida is not alone in this problem. I guess KC has issues and open spots. I know my old high school said they had an open English teacher position that didn't receive an application for over 3 months.
