Today could be the day. Not sure if it is the veterans committee but one of the committees is meeting today regarding past "overlooked " players. Needs 12 of the 16 votes. Only missed by one last time around. Ozzie is on the committee as well as Dennis Eck. Another St. L. connection but can't remember who it is. Very good group with Dale Murphy, Thurmon Munson as well as aMarvin Miller.
Ted Simmons was the best hitter I ever saw on the Cardinals until Albert came on the scene. To hit the way he did as a catcher in that ballpark (during those summers) is amazing. Pays somewhat of a price playing when one of the all times greats played in Johnny Bench. His defense is somewhat maligned but some argue he was actually pretty good defensively. What a hitter though and to do it taking the beating as a catcher is HOF worthy IMO.
Update. He made it.
