And I understand there are a couple games today and tomorrow, but I write this on Sunday mornings and so I'm writing it before the two most perennially overrated teams in the sport cheered on by probably my two least favorite fan bases (Tennessee and Texas A&M) take the field. Anyway, on to another season of my college football ramblings:

1. We've never seen anything like what Nick Saban is doing at Alabama. We've seen really good teams. We've seen dynasties. But in this day and age of parity across the sport, we've never seen anything quite this dominant. Alabama didn't even play that well and beat the No. 3 team in the country by three scores. Maybe they'll manage to lose along the way and miss the playoff. But I wouldn't bet on it. It's a machine. And he's going to end up as maybe the best coach in the history of college football.

2. Losing that game wouldn't hurt Florida State. They could easily be back in the playoff picture. But losing quarterback DeAndre Francois does. Man. That's no good. You hate to see injuries. Especially in games that are over with three minutes to play.

3. Speaking of quarterback injuries, it's wait and see at UGA. Jacob Eason left with what they're calling a sprained knee in the first quarter against App State. Freshman Jake Fromm replaced Eason and played well and from what I read a lot of UGA fans would rather have Fromm because a lot of fans of every team everywhere on the Internet would always rather have the backup at every position, but if Eason's out for a long time, I think it could change the way I feel about the SEC East.

4. Some would call it karma. Liberty beat Baylor. First off, Steven Calvert is really good and honestly maybe he's an NFL quarterback. All he did was go 44/60 for a school record 447 yards and convert nine straight third downs in the second half. Second off, hey, Mack Rhoades, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Seriously, though, couldn't happen to a better school. I hope they never win another game.

5. I think the best player I saw this weekend might have been a wide receiver for Indiana. Simmie Cobbs Jr. had 11 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown and made a bevy of one handed catches. He was really the only threat for Indiana and Ohio State knew he was getting the ball and he still put on a show. The Buckeyes have 70 Simmie Cobbs and Indiana only has one so OSU won the game pretty easily, but that kid can play.

6. Apparently the biggest upset in the history of point spreads happened last night. Howard was a 45 point underdog and beat UNLV 43-40, thanks to 190 rushing yards by Caylin Newton, whose brother plays quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. That is the extent of my knowledge about this game.

7. What if Tom Herman isn't the savior? Texas lost 51-41 to Maryland. At home. And somehow I'm sure it's all Charlie Strong's fault. But stick with me for a minute: When Missouri had an opening and made a run at Herman, I believed the Tigers had to try to hire him. But I wasn't sold it would be a home run hire. When he was the OC at Iowa State, nobody was lining up on his doorstep. Then he started calling plays for an NFL team in Columbus with Urban Meyer as the head coach (he knows a bit about offense) and suddenly he's the hottest thing in coaching. He takes over a good situation at Houston, has a great first year, then goes 9-4 and finishes 3rd in the American Athletic Conference and he's the reincarnation of Knute Rockne. Maybe. But I'm not sure about it.

HAHAHAHAHA. I hope they never win another game. Looks like I'm gonna be real torn when Texas plays Baylor.

8. Surprising score of the week: Louisville 35, Purdue 28. Barrett Sallee said on our podcast a couple weeks ago Louisville has no OL and could struggle. Are the Cards worse than we thought? Or is Jeff Brohm gonna be better than we thought at Purdue? Guess we'll know in two weeks.

9. Surprising score of the week, pt 2.: Pitt led Youngstown State 21-0 and then had to win 28-21 in OT. The Fighting Bo Pelinis showed some piss and vinegar. I think he'll be an FBS head coach again. May take a few years, but I think he'll be back. I don't think he was a terrible coach. I just think he acted like an out of control lunatic on the sidelines.

10. The feels. All of them.
