Just saying "GOOD" and "Mizzou" in a thread title is grounds for crucifixion on this board these days. Mizzou fandom has always been sorta loveably cynical in a Cubs/Bad News Bears kinda way, but the pessimism has taken such a dark turn over the last several months that this place needs a damn enema. So get ready to guzzle up the good side like it or not:

* We are only one season removed from a run of back to back football SEC championship game appearances by Mizzou. In one of those two, they entered the game - and the fourth quarter even - with an actual chance at making the national title game. That's motherfrickin' awesome. I mean really. There are original member SEC schools like Ole Miss and Kentucky who've NEVER made it to Atlanta. We saw Mizzou go there back to back right off the bat. We ALL were witnesses to history.

* We are only three seasons removed from a run of five straight men's basketball NCAA tournament trips. The stretch included the first two 30 win seasons in school history. Again, that's frickin' awesome. We witnessed Mizzou basketball history this decade. Mizzou was in the top 25 for large chunks of all five of those seasons. We won our last game against the Beakers in CoMo in thrilling fashion, undoing the BS Padgett shot at Hearnes. We walked off the floor of our final conference hoops tourney in Kansas City, MISSOURI with a conference championship trophy as our fans chanted "SEC! SEC! SEC!" at the Big 12 commish. That's frickin' epic and hilarious.

* We are only one year removed from an all-time enrollment high at Mizzou. And even now, the enrollment next year is still gonna be higher than most alumni could have ever dreamed. We are legitimately the size of a Big Ten school now. That's frickin' awesome. CoMo has always been a great town and Mizzou has always been a great campus and to see it grow and be getting students from Chicago and Texas and the like has been really cool to see.

* Athletic donations are still rising in spite of the past year. Many people wanted a change from Mike Alden's ways, and they got it, and if you look at things from a fundraising and long range plan point of view, the new AD has what look like some really good ideas.

So take a day off from our usual crap on here and reflect and be happy. Mizzou pride and cohesion among its fanbase has always been a fragile Ming vase, because of the nature of our sports programs' histories. There's no way around that. But what is really depressing is how many a-holes seem so eager to deliberately break the Ming vase rather than try to hold it together before it falls. Let's at least stop trying to break it ourselves. It's a nice damn vase that has had some real value added to it over the past decade, and the least we can do is give a shot at keeping it in one piece.
