****ICYMI - here is all of our stories/video interviews from our trip to Atlanta and the Rivals Camp last weekend
- CJ Stokes previews his June official to Missouri
- VIDEO: Catchup up with Isaac Thompson
- OL Antavious Woody has Mizzou official set
- VIDEO: 4-star QB Sam Horn is all-in with Missouri
***Regarding Isaac Thompson, he's scheduled other official visits with UCF and Arkansas and is planning to go to Penn State and either West Virginia or Illinois. We don't think there is much, if anything to worry about when it comes Thompson taking these other visits than just getting out and enjoying the recruiting process and making sure his Missouri decision is solid. He said Missouri will get his last official and he's also recruiting Toriano Pride to join him in the Tiger's secondary in the 2022 class.
***4-star defensive lineman Jadon Scarlett became the latest target to schedule an official visit to Missouri, which will be the weekend of June 25th. We caught up with Scarlett recently at the Rivals Camp in Dallas, so this wasn't a surprise after our conversation with him. He just recently visited Texas A&M for their spring game, he told us the Aggies and Oklahoma are the other teams that are recruiting him the hardest right now along with Mizzou.
NEW OFFERS THIS WEEK
***Missouri became the third offer for Raytown (Mo.) offensive lineman Logan Reichert this week. The 6-foot-7, 330-pound prospect in the 2023 class also has offers from Florida State and Memphis early on his recruiting process.
***The Tigers also extended new 2022 offers to the following prospects:
We continued to make the rounds in visiting some Mizzou football targets on the western side of the state in person this week. A few updates:
-- As Mitchell Forde wrote this morning, Mizzou WR commit Mekhi Miller said he is planning to take visits to other schools. He specifically mentioned Indiana as somewhere he has a visit scheduled. But we don't think you all have much to worry about with him. He's planning to be at Night at the Zou June 2nd and take another official visit to Missouri for a game in the fall, and he sounded pretty much locked in with the Tigers.
-- One player we didn't get to catch up with in person but who has caused some buzz on this site this week is North Kansas City DT Domonique Orange. If you missed it, Josh Helmholdt caught up with the four-star a couple days ago, and the fact that Orange didn't mention Missouri as one of the schools he's planning to visit caused some consternation on this site. A lot of the time, we tell you all not to read too much into something like that. But from what we've heard lately, we would be surprised if Orange wound up at Missouri. Not saying the Tigers are totally out of the race, but it sounds like Ohio State (as of now this offer seems legit), Oregon, Texas A&M, Iowa State and Northwestern are all in better shape as of this moment.
-- Speaking of North Kansas City, there are a couple other names to know on the defensive line there. Class of 2023 DT Edric Hill just landed a Missouri offer last week. We caught up with Hill and will have a story on him soon. It's obviously early in Hill's recruitment, but he mentioned Missouri as one of the schools most involved in his recruitment so far. A lesser-known name as of now is fellow 2023 prospect PJ Adebawore. Adebawore's older brother, Tommy, plays at Northwestern, and he has similar length and athleticism. He plays both tight end and defensive end/outside linebacker right now, but his future looks to be as an edge rusher. Northwestern obviously has a big head start in his recruitment, and we don't know how much Mizzou is interested or if at all, but he's at least an in-state name to familiarize yourselves with.
-- One other Kansas City area player who has drawn Mizzou interest but not an offer is 2022 wideout Jason Essex. The Winnetonka product has heard from the Tiger staff fairly regularly, but we get the sense that the staff is going to wait until it has a resolution with Luther Burden (yes, he's still committed to Oklahoma, but the Mizzou staff is absolutely still pursuing) and a couple other wideouts higher on its board before extending an offer to Essex. The most likely path for Essex to come to Missouri would actually be on the defensive side of the ball. We've been told Mizzou wants Essex to come to a camp this summer and try his hand at safety and/or linebacker, which could earn him an offer, but we're not sure how interested Essex is at switching sides of the ball, especially since he appears to have a few legitimate Power Five offers at receiver. Iowa State looks like the school to beat as of now.
-- Official visits are being scheduled. You can keep track of those we know for sure right here. Every time we learn of a visit we'll put it in the database and all will be on this page. The big unofficial visit day over the summer, again, is Wednesday June 2. It will be an invite-only Tiger Ten style day for 2022 and 2023 players. We expect most of the current commitments (including Sam Horn) to be there. As it gets closer, we'll update the list of attendees in The Chamber weekly and get a thread going to keep track of those who will be here.
-- We intentionally left the question you'll all have for the end because we want to make sure you actually read the whole thing (except for those who will attempt to be first to reply before reading, of course, a time-honored Friday morning tradition). Former Cardinal Ritter 4-star Jameson Williams made the big news of the week, entering the transfer portal on Wednesday. There has been a good amount of buzz around Missouri, including this article from Rivals.com's Mike Farrell.
We heard this was a possibility a few weeks ago, but honestly had kind of forgotten it as nothing had happened. There were a few factors in Williams choosing to leave. First of all, due to the extra year of eligibility, Ohio State got some guys back that many didn't think would come back, including top receiver Chris Olave. The Buckeyes have recruited historically well at wide receiver in the last few years and it's a crazy crowded position. That includes a five-star and two four-stars in the 2021 class and two four-stars already in the 2022 class. During spring football, there was some talk from Ohio State people that a couple of the younger guys may have passed Williams on the depth chart. Long story short, Williams' playing time looked like it might be less next year than originally thought.
Anyway, Missouri is going to be involved here. The previous transfer of Mookie Cooper will be a factor. We've long asked the question "What if all these St. Louis guys decided to stay close to home and play together in Columbia?" It's not to that point quite yet, but it's building a lot of momentum. That could play a big part with Williams. The major competition at this point, from what we've heard from multiple people, appears to be Alabama. The obvious question is this: If you're transferring in order to get more playing time, is Alabama the place you're going to go? The Tide is obviously going to sell the fact that it has the best program in college football, you can play for titles and ten players--including four wide receivers--have been drafted in the first round in the last two years. The other schools are going to raise the previous question with Williams: Wouldn't you rather go somewhere that you KNOW you're going to get on the field and be one of the top receivers the day you hit campus?
In addition to Mizzou and Alabama, we've heard some Texas talk and Georgia reached out to him yesterday. Since he just entered the portal two days ago, we don't have a sense for a timetable at this point. Missouri definitely has a shot. Our early read would be either Mizzou or Alabama. But it is still very early so we'll keep tabs on it and see where it goes.
