BASKETBALL RECRUITING
Let's start it off with hoops because, why not? Also because it's the section that will probably make you all happier in the short term.
The next potential piece of Missouri's 2023 class will be on campus next week. We are told that East St. Louis forward Macaleab Rich will be on Columbia for a visit on Thursday. Rich has a top five of Ole Miss, Kansas State, Illinois-Chicago, Eastern Michigan and Mizzou. Most people believe this to be a top two of Mizzou and Kansas State. Rich will visit Ole Miss on September 1, K-State on September 9 (the weekend Mizzou plays in Manhattan in football) and UIC on September 16. Missouri is definitely in the mix here. There are some whispers that K-State has a slight edge right now. We can't say for sure if that is true or not. Rich is holding a camp for kids in Belleville on Saturday morning and we're planning to go by to do a story and talk to him. We'll have more information on him in the coming days.
Another prospect to keep an eye on is Edmond (OK) 2024 point guard T.O. Barrett. Barrett told us he plans to visit Missouri soon, but does not have a date officially set yet. Barrett has offers from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and has said he's receiving interest from Georgetown and Louisville. He's going to play EYBL with MoKan next summer. Getting him on campus early could be a point in Mizzou's favor.
Speaking of MoKan, we've heard some talk of the Tigers trying to get big man John Bol on campus for a visit soon. Nothing set yet, but if it happens, we'll let you guys know.
These three join the list of anticipated visits already scheduled from Jordan McCullum, Dallas Thomas and James Brown.
FOOTBALL RECRUITING
- The most interesting thing here doesn't revolve around a single prospect. All along, we've been under the impression this might be a smaller Mizzou class. We are no longer under that impression. From what we are hearing, the Tigers will take at least 20 high school prospects in this class. The number could be larger. As always at this point, the number can fluctuate based on COVID years, transfers out, etc, but we are hearing that the class should have 20 high school players on the low end.
- Edric Hill will announce his decision on Monday, August 22nd. All signs are pointing towards Alabama here. The feeling always was Missouri's chances being slim here, even if he did go through with his originally planned fall visit to CoMo.
- As we mentioned earlier this week, Logan Reichert is sticking with September 8th as his commitment date, which also happens to be his birthday. Nothing is official until it is official, but it would be extremely surprising if Reichert chose anyone other than Mizzou.
- Nothing new with East St. Louis linebacker target Antwon Hayden. Despite his commitment to Illinois, he is a player to watch moving forward as he plans to take fall officials to Illinois, Mississippi State, and Missouri.
- Here is a breakdown of other Missouri targets that remain uncommitted and visited at some point over the summer:
Marvin Burks - took summer OV's to Missouri, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. Will likely take more visits during the fall. LSU and Oklahoma are the two other schools that make us his Top 5
Jeremiah Love - made an unofficial trip to Mizzou over the summer, but will likely end up at either Texas A&M, Michigan, or Notre Dame.
Jyaire Hill - took officials to Illinois and Missouri over the summer. Was recently at Michigan in July for their BBQ event. Pretty quiet surrounding his recruiting process. Michigan does seem to be the buzz, but Hill doesn't do many interviews.
Jordan Allen - took summer officials to Missouri, Iowa, and Iowa State. He also has Kansas State among his Top 4. Earlier this week, Allen told us he plans to take an official visit to Kansas State on September 3rd when they play South Dakota. He said he may take some additional gameday visits afterwards as well. He's still a player Missouri has a high level of interest in.
Benjamin Galloway - visited and camped with Missouri in July and picked up an offer. Released a Top 5 on August 2nd that included Mizzou, Houston, South Florida, Maryland, and Georgia Tech. He is planning to use his official visits this fall.
K'Vion Thunderbird - also visited in July, but not a current take for Missouri. Things could change as they evaluate him more during the fall.
- Rivals is releasing their updated 2023 rankings throughout the week. The updated Rivals250 rankings came out on Monday and Missouri no longer has any commitments among the top group best as Francis-Howell (Mo.) tight end Brett Norfleet dropped out of the rankings but maintained his four-star status. Missouri's other four-star commitments include Lee's Summit (Mo.) wide receiver Joshua Manning and Lincoln (Wash.) quarterback Gabarri Johnson.
- Soon, Rivals will release their updated 2024 rankings as well. We've been featuring Missouri targets in next year's class at each position over the last two weeks and will continue to do so in the next few days. For now, here is a list of prospects that are high on Missouri's big board in 2024.
