FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Recruiting went back into a dead period this week. That will last through August. There will still be communication, but there won't be any visitors again until the season starts. The coaches are focused on camp every day and high school players are getting ready for their seasons, so it tends to be one of the slower months in terms of commitments and major breaking news. But that doesn't mean nothing wi'll happen and we'll keep you updated.

***Five-star WR and current Oklahoma commit Luther Burden returned to Missouri for Ambush Weekend on Saturday. By our count, that's at least the third time he's been on campus throughout the summer. Always a good sign that he continues visiting Columbia and tweeting out pics about his visit. We'll continue to monitor the situation, but like we've previously mentioned, expect this recruiting saga to go on until signing day.

***As we mentioned previously, Domonique Orange made a return trip to Missouri last week and put in an impressive workout in front of the coaching staff. While there was interest in the Rivals250 prospect beforehand, we're hearing his workout has leveled-up the interest from Missouri's staff even more now. Orange recently took a trip to Kansas and told JayhawkSlant.com that he plans to take a couple of officials in the fall, but isn't sure where at the moment.

***Owasso (Okla.) defensive tackle Chris McClellan released his Top 6 schools earlier this week, eliminating Missouri. His finalists include Ohio State, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Southern Cal. McClellan visited Missouri in early June for Night at the Zou.

***On the positive news side of lists, 2020 Lee's Summit North OL Cayden Green tweeted out his top ten on Thursday.

This has always been expected to be a Mizzou/Oklahoma battle. If we had to put a third team in it, we'd probably go with Georgia, but it would be a surprise if it isn't the Tigers or the Sooners in the end.

***Sticking with the line of scrimmage theme, Missouri is making moves with a few more DL targets including four-star Joshua White out of Cedar Grove (Ga.) and Tai Leonard of North Shore (Tex.). Both are planning to visit Missouri in the fall.

***Alexandria (La.) defensive lineman J'Mari Monette just recently picked up an offer from Missouri back on August 1st. He also told us he's highly interested in Missouri and looking to visit during the fall. Monette's recruitment seems pretty wide open at the moment. He camped at Mississippi State last week, so the Bulldogs appear to be contenders. He has also taken summer visits to Baylor, Tulane, and Arkansas State.

***We were able to confirm that four-star cornerback Gentry Williams was back at Missouri last weekend. He also visited for Night at the Zou back in early June. To recap, Williams has taken official visits to Florida, Arkansas, Southern Cal. He also got out to Oklahoma twice for unofficials during the summer as well.

The momentum with Williams has always seemed to trend towards the Sooners who is admittedly a lifelong fan. But, his connections with Mizzou defensive backs coach Aaron Fletcher has kept the Tigers firmly in the mix.

"Coach Fletch is a guy I'm able to relate to beyond football," Williams recently told Rivals.com analyst Sam Spiegelman. "I ran track with his son and I've known his family for a long time. Moving forward, our relationship will always be close because we're able to connect. I know his family and he knows my family and the addition of Coach (Steve) Wilks, an NFL guy and NFL mind, that's the angle for so many people and he definitely knows what it takes."

Williams is expected to take an official visit to LSU sometime this fall before he makes his college decision.

***We posted a story yesterday on Intriguing Official Offers, to follow up on that article, we were able to get in touch with Auburndale (Fla.) safety Elijah Davis. The three-star prospect told us he is very interested in the Tigers and is looking to take an official visit sometime this fall. He's been talking frequently with defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison. Hall told us Indiana, South Florida, and Georgia State are the other schools he's currently hearing a lot from.

***Missouri also has defensive back offers out to Utah commit Jeffrey Ugo and SMU commit Pierre Goree, Jr. as well.

***Moving to linebackers, the interest level is also high for Dacula (Ga.) LB and current Georgia Tech commit Kyle Efford. The three-star prospect committed to the Yellow Jackets back on July 4th but is wanting to explore all of his options before signing day. Missouri linebackers coach DJ Smith has been talking to Efford for just over a month. Efford is looking to take an official to Missouri sometime this fall as well.

***Norman (Oka.) North linebacker Duncan Parham picked up an offer from Missouri on June 2nd and was able to make the trek to Columbia last week. We haven't been able to get in touch with the three-star prospect yet, but he's going to be a guy Missouri will continue to evaluate throughout the fall.

***Three-star product Devin Smith is another linebacker Missouri extended an official offer to this past week. He told us he's been communicating with the staff for a month now and is currently in the process of planning a fall visit to Missouri.
